Illegal Medicines and Traditional Herbs Will Be Withdrawn from Markets

West Jakarta Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and Trade (KUMKMP) Sub-Department is going to hold market operation and withdraw some products in the markets. This is conducted as a follow up to the finding of 38 medicines and traditional herbs containing harmful substances by the Food and Drugs Monitoring Agency (BPOM) some time ago, as well as to prevent the distribution of those products to the consumers.

“Usually, if there were reports, we’ll directly take action by holding market operation,” stated Head of West Jakarta KUMKMP, Slamet Widodo, Wednesday (8/20).

According to Widodo, if those products had been distributed, there is a possibility they are still in the markets. Therefore, the residents as well as medicines and traditional herbs business owners are asked to be more thorough in choosing products.

“If those products had been distributed, they are probably still in the markets. We will urge the public and withdraw the products,” he told.

For information, some time ago BPOM and the police seized several sacks contained medicine’s raw materials and tens of packaging printing machines from a factory in Tangerang, Banten. BPOM confirmed that all of the medicines and traditional herbs produced there were illegal and contained harmful substances.
